Irish Chamber Orchestra performs with Pekka Kuusisto
Known for his spontaneous, joyful and virtuosic playing, Pekka Kuusisto has made a career for himself as soloist and guest director of ensembles including the Australian, St Paul the Britten Sinfonia as well as the Irish Chamber Orchestra. Kuusisto demonstrates extraordinary individuality and imagination in his playing. He is free and fluid in his approach and has been acclaimed for his spontaneity and freshness in performance.
Anticipate a sparkling but rhythmically vigorous performance of Bartók’s Divertimento as Kuusisto blends folk and classical music from Hungary and Finland, highlighting the musical and linguistic links between the two countries. Finnish composer Rautavaara's The Fiddlers is based on six different Finnish folk tunes and is full of surprise. Bach’s brilliant E Major Violin Concerto is coupled with his irresistible Violin Concerto for Two Violins BWV 1042 which he performs with ICO Leader, Katherine Hunka.
