About

Andy Bell - best known as one half of Erasure, one of the UK’s most beloved award-winning songwriting partnerships - has a successful and varied parallel solo career with releases that include two solo albums under his own name, and a further two as offshoots of his one-man theatre project, ‘Torsten The Bareback Saint’. Throughout his incredible career, he has collaborated with artists as diverse as British Electric Foundation, Jake Shears (Scissor Sisters), Claudia Brücken (Propaganda), Perry Farrell (Jane’s Addiction), Boy George and Dave Audé.

His ascendancy began when he answered an ad that Vince Clarke (Depeche Mode / Yazoo / The Assembly) had placed in the Melody Maker and, after a successful audition, the duo formed the phenomenon known as Erasure. Their decades-long song-writing partnership has seen Erasure crowned Best British Group at The Brit Awards and receive the Attitude Icon Award, amongst many other accolades. Since the release of their debut, Wonderland, they have gone on to sell over 20 million albums, 5 of their 18 studio albums hitting the UK number one spot, with their most recent release, 2020’s ‘The Neon’, entering the UK Official Albums Chart at #4.

An inspiration throughout the LGBTQ+ community, Andy has served as an ambassador for New York’s Hetrick-Martin Institute, was a patron of Above The Stag, London’s only LGBTQ+ theatre and the Cambridge based charity Dhiverse. His active support of charities includes contributing to the ‘Red Hot + Blue’ album (for AIDS and HIV research); a collaboration with Lene Lovich (for PETA), and performing on Cyndi Lauper’s charitable ‘True Colors Tour’.

In between writing and recording, Andy Bell has found time to compete in the ITV series ‘Popstar to Operastar’; remix a host of artists including Yazoo, Goldfrapp and Sandra Bernhardt; and top the US Billboard Dance Charts with the dance track ‘Aftermath (Here We Go)’. Andy Bell is getting set to release a new solo album, ‘Ten Crowns’, and he and Vince Clarke have recently started work on a new Erasure album project.
