About
The UK's biggest rap export in recent years
Breaking streaming records for his singles ‘Doja’ and ‘Sprinter’, Central Cee has emerged as one of the most prominent voices in UK rap for his blend of gritty yet vulnerable lyricism and high profile collaborations with the likes of Lil Baby, 21 Savage and Ice Spice.
Born Oakley Neil Caesar-Su in Ladbroke Grove, London, to an Irish mother and Guyanese father, Central Cee grew up being exposed to all types of music; from the reggae and dancehall sounds of Notting Hill Carnival, to the American hip-hop his father listened to. Inspired by rappers such as Chip and Bow Wow, Central Cee displayed a talent for poetry and rap from a young age, initially experimenting with different styles like auto-tuned trapwave, before transitioning to an upbeat and melodic take on UK drill in 2020. That year, his singles ‘Day in the Life’ and ‘Loading’, released via GRM Daily, catapulted the then-22 year old into the spotlight.
A flurry of top-charting EP releases and record-breaking singles quickly followed, from his debut mixtape Wild West (2021) and second mixtape, 23 (2022) which reached No.2 and No.1 in the UK Albums Chart, to his later tracks ‘Doja’ and ‘Sprinter’. Peaking at No.2 on the UK Singles Chart, ‘Doja’ became the most-streamed UK rap song in Spotify history at the time for its TikTok baited tongue-in-cheek lines and R&B feel. Meanwhile, ‘Sprinter’ (featuring Dave) landed his first No.1 single and became the longest-running chart topping rap songs in the UK, holding the position for ten weeks before surpassing the Eve-sampled ‘Doja’ as the most-streamed UK rap song. In 2023, Central Cee joined the prestigious XXL Freshman Class and signed with Columbia Records, highlighting his growing influence beyond Britain.
Away from the accolades and obligatory posturing characteristic for contemporary rappers, Central Cee is regarded as a refreshingly authentic personality within the scene, displaying a willingness to be vulnerable with his music. Elsewhere, fans resonate with his comments on ‘generational wealth’ as an entirely self-made artist, and enjoy the ostentatious style that’s showcased in his many high-budget music videos featuring convoys of kaleidoscopic super cars and the odd private jet. Known for his distinctive streetwear style, Central Cee has collaborated with Nike and Paris Saint-Germain (for whom he designed a custom kit), even launching his own streetwear brand Syna World in 2023.
Central Cee’s much-anticipated debut album Can’t Rush Greatness arrived in January 2025. Jumping from Latin to trap influences, the 17-track album features many of the classic bangers the rapper is revered for, including a handful of new offerings. Released a few days earlier alongside a music video directed by Cole Bennett, ‘GBP’ blends the thundering 808 kicks and snapping snares of UK drill with collaborator 21 Savage’s Atlantan delivery. Elsewhere, fast-paced fan-favourite ‘BAND4BAND’ (featuring Lil Baby) celebrates Central Cee’s newfound fame and fortune to a hard-hitting backdrop.
