The rise of Belgian brothers Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike has been nothing short of meteoric. From small beginnings they have risen to become one of the most in demand acts in the world of dance music. At present they sit as equals at the top table of House royalty. Festival headliners the world over and two of the most influential producers in the industry today.
Almost every destination on the map has seen a visit from the energetic duo over the past few years as demand to witness their exhilarating performances has gone into overdrive. Headline sets at some of Europe’s biggest venues – including London’s prestigious Ministry of Sound and legendary Ibiza institution Pacha – and debut tours in the U.S.A, Asia and South America marked them as a pair on the ascendance across the planet. Sitting pretty at number 38 (down from 78 in 2011) in the DJ Mag top 100 they are well poised to continue their outstanding run of form.
Their unique style and sound has led to pair being commissioned to produce not one, but two anthems for the world-renowned Tommorrowland festival in Belgium. Their collaboration with Dada Life and Tara McDonald, ‘Tomorrow Give In’ was rapturously received, so much so that when Tomorrowland 2011 came onto the horizon, the duo were once again the natural choice to produce the event theme. ‘The Way We See The World’, co-produced with Afrojack and Australian pop royalty NERVO shot straight to the top of the Beatport Charts. Although anthems like this brought the duo to a new audience, it is tracks like ‘Salinas’ and ‘Rej’ which cemented their reputation as stellar producers. Other releases included ‘The Jam’ with Techotronic on Refune, GenerationX which landed via Size Records and the delightful ‘Madagascar’. Their passion for new music has also extended beyond their own work; recent years have seen a slew of firebrand productions with up and coming artists Yves V, Angger Dimas, Basto and more signing to the brothers’ Smash The House imprint.
The duo have also become the go to men for remix duties of late. Immediately identified by Axwell for their raw talent and they were commissioned to them to work on Abel Ramos’s Rotterdam City of Love. From there they moved on to a number of heavyweight artists reworking tracks for the likes of Lady Gaga, Tiesto, LMFAO, Swedish House Mafia and Snoop Dogg amongst others.
With a reputation for live performance like no other pair in the game and a whole host of new material emerging in preparation for Miami this year the timing of their Residence debut is ideal. Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike are two names that will have a massive imprint on Irish dance music this year.
