About
Earning acclaim for his songwriting and production work alongside younger sister Billie Eilish, FINNEAS has carved out his own solo career while continuing to work with some of the biggest names in music.
Finneas O’Connell, AKA FINNEAS, is an LA-born multi-hyphenate of the highest degree. As a ten-time GRAMMY Award winning singer, songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist and actor, Finneas is revered for his solo artistry as well as copious collaborations with the likes of Billie Eilish, Drake, Justin Bieber and many more.
Growing up in Los Angeles with actor and musician parents, Finneas and Billie were both home-schooled and actively encouraged to follow creative pursuits from an early age. In a home filled with various musical instruments, Finneas began writing and producing music as a teenager, whilst also juggling acting jobs that saw him feature in Modern Family and comedy-drama Glee. His big break came about from reappropriating his song ‘Ocean Eyes’ (originally written for his band, The Slightlys) for Billie Eilish after her dance teacher asked them to pen a song for a piece of choreography. The song was then posted on SoundCloud to great critical acclaim.
Written, recorded and produced entirely from their childhood bedrooms in Highland Park, LA, Finneas and Billie released Eilish’s debut album 'When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?' (2019) to huge commercial success. Featuring hits such as ‘Bad Guy’ and ‘When the Party’s Over’, the album showcased Finneas’ flair for production in harnessing layered harmonies, minimalist beats, and experimental soundscapes. In concocting Eilish’s signature moody sound and becoming a mainstay of her live shows, Finneas earned five GRAMMY Awards (including Producer of the Year, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year for ‘Bad Guy’), positioning him as an in-demand songwriter and producer, while also giving him a bigger platform to release his own solo work.
The same year that 'When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?' was released, Finneas debuted his first solo EP, 'Blood Harmony'. Demonstrating an inclination for introspective lyricism and emotive vocal delivery, its single ‘Let’s Fall in Love for the Night’ proved popular thanks to its blend of pop, indie, and electronic references. His full-length debut album (perhaps ironically) entitled 'Optimist' (2021) followed soon after, and saw the accomplished artist grapple with pertinent themes of mental health and the ongoing climate crisis. Featuring singles ‘What They’ll Say About Us’ and ‘The 90s’, Billboard described the effort as “a testament to his songwriting talent.”
Within his role as a multi-talented producer and sought-after collaborator, Finneas has worked with a range of high-profile artists, cementing his skill of adapting to different sounds whilst letting his unique sonic signature shine through. From Justin Bieber’s ‘Lonely’ (co-produced with Benny Blanco), to Selena Gomez’s ‘Lose You To Love Me’, Finneas has been a prolific contributor within the contemporary pop landscape, picking up countless awards and accolades along the way. This has only bolstered his own following, seeing him sell-out his solo live shows and bring his darkly soulful brand of electronic pop to the masses.
