London quartet summoning the spirits of R&B greats

No Guidnce are part of Ticketmaster New Music’s Breakthrough 2024 list – our pick of the hottest new artists you must see live in 2024.

R&B boy band vocal groups are in the midst of an unlikely renaissance right now, thanks in no small part to London’s No Guidnce, who are fully intent on resurrecting that golden era of heart-aching harmonies – while stealing young hearts at the same time.

Their origin isn’t straightforward, but it’s befitting of a boy band’s foundations. Made up of Zeekay, Kaci, Josh, and Ebubé – who all hail from various parts of London – it was the Zeekay and Kaci who appeared together on Little Mix’s reality TV show, The Search, in 2020. Industry executives’ search was complete upon seeing their episode, offering them both a chance to be in an R&B boy band after the show aired, before recruiting Josh via Instagram, and discovering Ebubé on TikTok.

When No Guidnce’s formation as a four-piece was finalised, they each recognised their ability to sing individually. But when their voices organically infused with one another, they began to realise their potential. It was then they flourished into a silky smooth, harmony-laden unit akin to R&B titans Boyz II Men.

“R&B is more than just music. A proper R&B boy band doesn’t come around too often,” Kaci stated in an interview with Ones to Watch. “I think in the 90s it was poppin’ because everyone was trying to make it, but it’s not really as much of a thing anymore.” But alongside fellow UK up-and-comers FLO and Bellah, No Guidnce are insisting that the lost art of swooning R&B is alive and well.

It wasn’t until the quartet entered the realm of TikTok that the world took notice of their talents, and the platform became their playground. Uploading gorgeously crafted covers of Michael Jackson and various musical heroes from a car park – which is “the nearest space we use rent free,” according to Zeekay – No Guidnce caught the eye of pop songwriter and R&B star, Victoria Monét.

Monét and fellow songwriter Theron Thomas invited the Londoners over to the States, where they’d together craft a lush, overtly emotional sound. Like Boyz II Men before them, the band knew how they wanted to be defined, the result of which was their debut 2023 singles, ‘Committed’ and ‘Lie To Me’, songs that showcased No Guidnce’s Olympic-level harmonisation.

Both tracks launched their EP that year, Is It A Crime?, which was released only a matter of weeks after No Guidnce’s first ever live performance as the finished product at The Great Escape festival. After being behind the scenes for some time, the boy band are ready to transform their enormous promise into prestige. With the release of 2023 singles, ‘Let It Rain’, ‘If You Only Knew’ and ‘Yeah Yeah’, they’re firmly on course.
