A community initiative for a global audience

The World Fleadh Portlaoise, Co. Laois, 31 July to the 4 August 2008 is recognised as Ireland's biggest Irish and Celtic music festival. Marquee concerts and theatre performances will feature the finest Irish traditional, contemporary and Celtic music performers in the world.

The World Fleadh Dome will feature some of Ireland's most celebrated and successful musicians including, Shane MacGowan, Damien Dempsey, Frankie Gavin, Sharon Shannon, Tommy Fleming, Brian Kennedy, Moya Brennan, Mundy, Anthony Kearns, Dessie O'Halloran and Mike Denver to name a few.

In addition, the festival plays host to a number of Ireland's top Ceili bands, a scheduled session trail, and world title competitions in Irish traditional music, song and dance. There will also be master classes and demonstrations in various performance styles. To add to the aforementioned, the festival organisers have planned an incomparable range of family street and fringe activities to occur during The World Fleadh 2008 in Portlaoise.

Another major feature of the The World Fleadh is the Festival Club that will take place in the Sky Venue at the Heritage Hotel. This will give festival goers a chance to see great Irish artists such as the Hot House Flowers, the Wolfe Tones and Jack L in more intimate surroundings.
