About Tame Impala

Tame Impala are an anachronistic-sounding band formed in Perth, Australia at the turn of the millennium. The founding musicians, Kevin Parker on vocals and guitar and Dominic Simper on bass, were in their early teens at the time and spent years creating their sound and vision through home recordings. It was not until after 2007, when the band was joined by drummer and backing vocalist Jay Watson, that Tame Impala took their music to the public.

Their sound is reminiscent of the late 60s, drawing elements from all of the artists of that time and recreating them in a way such that they sound like an original recording from the historic Woodstock Festival. Using authentic-sounding instruments and production choices, they have seemingly bought a whole new generation to the sounds of arguably music's most powerful moment in history.

September of 2008 saw the launch of their first EP, titled Tame Impala. With extraordinary control of his vision for the band, Parker was responsible for playing every instrument on the recording, as well as writing all of the songs, performing the vocals and even creating the cover art. The album eventually went to number 10 in the ARIA charts and No. 1 in the independent label charts.

When they finally began performing live, Tame Impala returned to playing all their own instruments, although were famously disorganised in their approach — even performing barefoot on more than one occasion.

In 2010, Tame Impala collaborated with Dave Fridmann and released their first full-length studio album, Innerspeaker. Having promoted the album, Parker returned to his home town of Perth and spent two years working in his original home studio before the release of the second album, Lonerism, in 2012. The latest album is 2015's Currents.

Tame Impala is releasing their fourth album later this year and has announced a couple of UK shows this summer.
