About

All-female indie outfit bring the buzz with their own brand of baroque 'n roll

You’d be hard pressed to remember a debut single quite as impressive, as memorable and as striking as The Last Dinner Party’s ‘Nothing Matters’, which released in April 2023.

Although it has only been a year since their debut album, 'Prelude to Ecstasy', was released, The Last Dinner Party had been playing many of those songs since their very first rehearsals in the stagnant summer of 2020. 'Nothing Matters', their first single, has been a feature of every setlist since their first ever gig at the George Tavern in 2021. They had held, nurtured and fed these first songs for a long time, and in return they have flown them to heights and guided them on journeys once totally incomprehensible. While it may seem to an outsider that The Last Dinner Party have moved quickly on to a second album, this timing felt like a natural progression to the group. They’re not closing the book or beginning a new ‘era’, but transforming and shapeshifting, vibrating with the experience and inspiration that these last few years have given to them.

The band follow a tried and tested tradition in British music history (see: Pink Floyd, Coldplay…) of meeting at University, with all five members coming together during their first year studying in London. Since then, The Last Dinner Party’s rise has been nothing short of meteoric, and it’s hard to remember a band causing quite so much of a stir without even releasing an album, this side of The Arctic Monkeys.

The London five-piece headed into the studio early 2025 with GRAMMY Award winning producer Markus Dravs (Wolf Alice, Florence & The Machine, Bjork) to start work on the follow-up to their number 1 debut album, 2023’s 'Prelude to Ecstasy'. 2025's 'From The Pyre' is the sound of a band having a lot of fun rather than feeling any innate pressure to follow-up on what was an explosively successful debut record. It’s also the sound of a young band developing and maturing their songwriting together, as tight a unit as the endless months out on the road pay testament to.

With two BRIT Awards to their name (including Breakthrough Artist earlier this year), and having sold out virtually every show they played right across the globe (including three sold-out hometown shows at London’s Eventim Apollo), The Last Dinner Party’s arrival and subsequent worldwide success was one of the most thrilling introductions to a new British band in decades, and 'From The Pyre’s opening introduction suggests that unparalleled success story shows no signs of relenting.
