About

A malicious serpent. A beautiful princess in the power of a seemingly evil sorcerer. And a prince on a quest to find love, light and wisdom.

The Magic Flute is one of the greatest and most popular operas ever written. It explores the search for true love and wisdom as the royal prince Tamino and the bird-catcher Papageno overcome a series of trials and tribulations in order to rescue Pamina from the grasp of the manipulative Queen of Night.

Complicite artistic director Simon McBurney’s five-star production of Mozart’s timeless classic returns to ENO for its first revival. McBurney’s wonderfully theatrical and imaginative staging is given a contemporary setting, in which live sound effects and breathtaking animations help bring this captivating tale to life.

Conducted by ENO Music Director Mark Wigglesworth, the cast includes Allan Clayton as Tamino, Lucy Crowe as Pamina, Peter Coleman-Wright as Papageno, James Creswell as Sarastro and John Graham-Hall as Monostatos. Ambur Braid makes her UK operatic debut as the calculating Queen of Night.
