The Mood Swings tour

Marcus King is still only 27 years old, but for around a decade now he’s been proving himself one of the most exciting talents in Americana music.

A guitar prodigy with a stunning voice, the South Carolina native is bringing a devil-may-care blues-rock sensibility back to progressively bigger venues. At the same time, he’s been a candid and open advocate for mental health awareness, amidst his own struggles with anxiety and depression.

A fourth-generation musician and the son of blues guitarist Marvin King, Marcus King first picked up a guitar aged 3, and by 11 was recording guitar on his father’s tracks. Aged 15, he formed The Marcus King Band, who released their debut album Soul Insight in 2015. The following year the band released their second, self-titled album, which was produced by former Allman Brothers guitarist Warren Haynes. At this point the band started to make their name as one of the hardest-touring groups in their corner of the world, a road-dog attitude that King maintains to this day. The group released their third album, Carolina Confessions, in 2018.

King went solo with the release of his 2020 album, El Dorado. Produced by the Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach, the record saw him slow down and inject some soulful flavours into his hard-rockin’ sound — while still revolving around the same masterful guitar leads and smoky, powerful vocals. From satiny slow-jams like “Wildflowers & Wine”, to sunny ballads like “Sweet Mariona”, to the requisite rockers like “The Well” and “Say You Will”, the record established King as one of the greatest newcomers in the Americana genre. It subsequently received a Grammy nomination for Best Americana Album, and led to tour dates with the likes of Chris Stapleton and Greta Van Fleet.

In 2022, King released his second album, Young Blood, for which he reunited with Auerbach. Inspired by a breakup and a dark time in King’s life, for this record he was ready to turn his amps back up and riff harder than ever. The result is a stunningly raw and rattlingly loud blues-rock record which Rolling Stone described as “sounding like it’s been animated by […] the gods of hedonistic Seventies rock & roll”. King appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon to perform rollicking single “Hard Working Man”, while his touring schedule continued to prove the song’s title true. In 2023, he completed a UK headline tour, as well as heading over to Australia and traversing the US several times over.

In summer 2024, King will head across the US in support of Chris Stapleton, before heading to the UK & Ireland in November as part of the Mood Swings world tour.
