About
Modern metalcore’s most mesmerising, melodically rich and mercurial force
Blending punishing breakdowns with atmospheric electronics and pop-tinged hooks, Bad Omens have risen as one of the defining bands of modern heavy music.
Formed by vocalist Noah Sebastian in 2015 following his departure from deathcore outfit Immoralist, Bad Omens quickly coalesced around a shared vision. Reconnecting with old friend and guitarist Nicholas Ruffilo, the duo recruited bassist Vincent Riquier, guitarist Joakim “Jolly” Karlsson, and drummer Nick Folio, swiftly landing a contract with Sumerian Records off the strength of their first demo.
Encouraged to rework those demos into tracks for their debut full-length, the band’s self-titled 2016 release brought an introduction to their vision. Completed within a whirlwind three-month period due to Karlsson facing a looming visa expiration, it broke into the US album charts upon its release. Merging blistering metallic precision with the stark desperation of Sebastian’s vocals, the searing aggression of ‘Exit Wounds’ and razor-sharp melodic stylings of ‘The Worst In Me’ captured the scene’s attention. Here, Bad Omens’ reputation as masters of emotionally intense, melodic-minded metalcore was born.
Making a name for themselves on the road, touring alongside Asking Alexandria and Parkway Drive, Bad Omens had evolved into sonic shapeshifters by the arrival of 2019’s 'Finding God Before God Finds Me'. Relocating to Los Angeles, Sebastian and Karlsson handled production duties, focused on crafting a record of air-tight metal anthems laced with existential angst. Architects of a sound entirely their own, the bluesy folk-laced intro and gospel chorus of album opener ‘Kingdom Of Cards’ delivered a statement of intent. From there, the record darts between hushed vulnerability and explosive crescendos. Leaning further into their penchant for arena-ready choruses on ‘Burning Out’ and embracing pop synths on ‘Running In Circles’, they also delivered some of their most brutally heavy blows with ‘Dethrone’ and ‘Blood’, doubling down on their genre-colliding vision.
Whilst the record’s touring schedule was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic, the lockdown became a turning point for Bad Omens. Faced with an indefinite pause, Sebastian took the time to rewire, focusing on discipline, health and pushing his creative limits. The result was the band’s career-defining third album, 2022’s 'The Death Of Peace Of Mind'.
A bold, cinematic body of work, it pulled its listeners into a dark, sensual world, found somewhere between vulnerability and violence. Striking a balance between industrial grit and heartfelt clarity, Sebastian’s vocals were placed front and centre, veering from icy falsettos to throat-shredding howls. The brooding vocal lines of ‘Like A Villain’ and pop-metal fusion of ‘Just Pretend’ paved the way for the band’s viral explosion, whilst ‘Artificial Suicide’ dealt in pummelling breakdowns and raw, guttural screams. Intimate yet cinematic, and completely unafraid to mutilate genre conventions, it pushed Bad Omens beyond the metal world, their offbeat, experimental mindset introducing countless new listeners to the genre.
Becoming a beacon for music fans seeking something different, their creative streak continued in 2024 with Concrete Jungle [The OST] - an expansive project filled with remixes, new material and collaborations. With the likes of HEALTH, Wargasm and Bob Vylan adding their touches, the band’s genre-warping team-up with experimental metal artist Poppy on ‘V.A.N.’ brought another viral explosion, topping Billboard’s Hot Hard Rock chart.
Bridging the gap between synth-laced melancholy, towering pop choruses, and thunderous breakdowns, Bad Omens are leading the charge on a wave of heavy music unafraid to evolve. Following a necessary pause due to exhaustion in 2024, they’re poised to bring their electrifying, emotionally charged live show back to Dublin in November 2025. Expect a night that will make you fall in love with heavy music all over again.
