About

Pendulum is a chart-topping drum and bass band with Australian and British heritage. Formed in 2002 in Western Australia's city of Perth, the band's line-up comprised Rob Swire, Paul Harding and Gareth McGrillen. Swire and McGrillen are also known for their work as Knife Party, an Electro House outfit. Other members include MC Ben Mount, Peredur ap Gwynedd on guitars and Kevin Sawka on drums. The founding members of Pendulum were inspired in their musical direction after hearing Messiah by Konflict in a nightclub, and they decided to follow the drum and bass musical genre, bringing Paul Harding on board, a veteran drum and bass DJ and well known figure on the scene. The band relocated to the UK a year later in 2003.

The group has rapidly become renowned for its highly distinctive sound, which combines electronica and hard rock music, and incorporates a range of diverse genres, many of which take influences from McGrillen and Swire's former stints in Xygen, the heavy metal band. Pendulum's discography includes their first release of Hold Your Colour, which included the single releases Ulterior Motive and Spiral. Hold Your Colour came out in 2005 and become an instant classic in the drum and bass scene, selling over 225,000 copies in Great Britain and entering the top 40 album charts. The second album release was In Silico in 2008, which played on more rock influences.

Mainstream success came thanks to the single release of Propane Nightmares which reached number nine in the GB singles charts. The third studio album was Immersion, released in 2010, with single releases including Ransom and Crush. Collaborations include Chuckie, deadmau5 and Tiesto, and the band have also remixed other band's tracks, including Voodoo People by The Prodigy, as well as putting their own spin on music by Cold Play, Led Zeppelin and Calvin Harris. New material is currently in development.

Their original releases show heavy drum and bass influences, but more recently, other influences can be heard in their evolving direction, particularly on Immersion and Silico. The band have played hundreds of tours worldwide, playing heavily to European audiences in Spain, France, Germany, Holland and the UK, as well as Switzerland, Norway, Prague and further afield, including North America and Australia. They are also regulars on the music festival scene.
